SPLENDID

ISOLITION

This project was created during exchange student program in Weißensee Kunsthochschule Berlin with Liron Shilian.

Privacy is a fundamental human need and a dynamic concept, constantly changing due to alterations in social, cultural and technological aspects. The freedom of the individual to be separate from the others and to choose to what degree he will expose himself to his surrounding is crucial for a functioning community.  In the communal era we live in today, the option for privacy as a primary condition for convenience in the collective type of lifestyle is essential.

Our project focuses on privacy and interactions in the communal working space. In such place, the need for privacy is greater and the conflict between these two concepts - privacy and communality - only increases. Our goal to maintain a dynamic situation led us to create a desk with an attached folded “septum” that can be adjusted and used when needed. By a simple action, the shared desk turns into an isolated section that allows privacy in the shared working space.

The desk system relates to its surrounding space organically and dynamically. Due to its modularity, the desk can be rearranged in multiple ways to enable working as a group, pair, or as an individual.

Our vision is to create a unique visual experience in the shared working space that combines a variety of colors. These colors can be changed in accordance with the mood and needs of the user, and thus create a cozy, comfy and fun atmosphere.
